NEWS / UPDATES

WELCOME

Welcome to Orange County’s resource for recycling at home, school, and work. We encourage you to check out our site for information about how to recycle, what to recycle, and most importantly, why to recycle.

WHY RECYCLE?

Using recycled materials to make new products reduces the demand for raw materials and increases the energy savings.

By removing materials from the waste stream for recycling, we help extend the life of the County’s landfill. Since it costs about $300,000 per acre to construct a new landfill, Orange County citizens can reduce disposal costs by preserving landfill space through recycling.

75% RECYCLING GOAL

House Bill 7243 was enacted during the 2010 Florida Legislative Session and became effective July 1, 2010.   Under this act, local governments are responsible for having a goal of recycling 75% of their waste by December 31, 2020. There are milestones along the way –

  • 40% by December 31, 2012
  • 50% by December 31, 2014
  • 60% by December 31, 2016
  • 70% by December 31, 2018
  • 75% by December 31, 2020

This new goal is a big leap from the current goal of 30% and will require a lot of education, outreach, and community support for us to be successful.  Stay tuned here for updates on new initiatives and our progress.

Help us reach the goal – RECYCLE!
